Patna (The Bihar Now Desk)| Rising onion prices have spoiled the kitchen budget of common people. Onion is being sold at Rs 50 to 55 per kg in the retail market in Patna. In such a situation, there is news of relief for the people of the capital. Arrangements are being made by NCCF (National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Ltd.) to sell onions at the rate of only Rs 35 per kg in Patna.
The National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) has decided to install vehicles for onion sale in different areas of the city to provide relief on the rising onion prices. From these mobile sales centers common people will be able to buy onions at much cheaper prices than the market.
Onion will be available at Rs 35 per kg at these places in Patna
According to NCCF officials, onion selling carts will be installed at about half a dozen prominent places in Patna on Wednesday. Among these, Gandhi Maidan, Rajendra Nagar Vegetable Market and Boring Canal Road Intersection are prominent places. Apart from this, cheap onions will also be made available through mobile vehicles in Mithapur.
On Tuesday also, onion was sold by NCCF in some areas of the capital at the rate of Rs 35 per kg. The number of sales centers can be increased in the coming days depending on demand and availability.
Onion will be available cheaper by Rs 15-20 from the market
At present, the price of onion in the retail market and vegetable markets of Patna is said to be around Rs 50 to 55 per kg. In such a situation, by getting onion from NCCF at Rs 35 per kg, customers can save about Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kg.
The increase in onion prices is directly impacting the domestic budget. Especially for poor and middle class families, rising prices of vegetables remain a cause of concern.
A customer will be able to purchase a maximum of 2 kg only.
NCCF has also set purchase limit in the sale of cheap onions. According to the available information, a customer will be able to buy a maximum of 2 kg onion only.
This limit has been kept to provide cheap onion to as many people as possible amidst limited stock and to prevent crowding or chaos at the sales centres.
Sales can start in other cities also
After Patna, NCCF is preparing to provide onions at cheaper rates in other cities of Bihar also. According to officials, considering the availability and demand of onion, mobile sales vehicles can be sent to other districts including Bhojpur.
With this, people living in cities other than the capital are also expected to get some relief from rising prices.
Problems increased due to increase in prices of green vegetables
Along with onion, the rise in the prices of green vegetables has also increased the problems of the people. The monthly expenses of families are being affected due to the increase in the prices of vegetables used in daily food.
In such a situation, the sale of onion by NCCF at the rate of Rs 35 per kg is a step of relief for the consumers. However, to take advantage of this, customers will have to purchase only during the stock available at the designated sales points.
