Politics has intensified regarding the case of misbehavior with a girl and making of her video in Jamui, Bihar. After main accused Nandan Yadav was injured in a police encounter, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi targeted RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Rohini Acharya reacted sharply to his statement and said that a criminal has no caste.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi gave his reaction on the Jamui incident through a social media post. He took a dig at Tejashwi Yadav’s alleged political reference in which Yadav community is called his ‘brother’.
Manjhi said that every Yadav of Bihar and UP is the brother of Tejashwi Yadav (statement on Yadav caste). He alleged that some of these ‘brothers’ molested the girl in Jamui and made a video of her, so that the government could be defamed. Manjhi also mentioned the government’s action and said that ‘we’ do not speak, we show by doing.
Rohini Acharya replied to Manjhi
Some time after Manjhi’s statement, Rohini Acharya gave a sharp reaction on social media. He said that on a sensitive incident like Jamui, there should be action against the criminals and sympathy for the victim, and not rhetoric based on caste.
Rohini Acharya raised questions linking Manjhi’s statement with his personal thinking and political wisdom. He said that a criminal has no caste or religion and the entire caste cannot be held responsible for the crime of one person. His reaction has also been reported by other media organizations.
‘The criminal is not representative of any particular caste’
Rohini Acharya said in her statement that people of different castes are included in different political parties of Bihar and the country. Apart from RJD, people of Yadav community are also present in BJP, JDU, Hindustani Awam Morcha and other parties.
He raised the question that if a person is accused of a crime, can his entire caste or the political leaders associated with that caste be held responsible for his crime?
According to Rohini, justice means taking legal action against the person who commits the crime, and not defaming or targeting an entire caste.
‘A person holding the post of minister should speak responsibly’
Rohini Acharya also mentioned the post of Union Minister in her statement. He said that more responsibility is expected from someone holding a constitutional or ministerial post while making public statements.
He also objected to Manjhi’s language and called it divisive. Rohini also said that with increasing age, questions are being raised on Manjhi’s political wisdom. However, this is a personal comment of Rohini Acharya.
Political turmoil continues on Jamui issue
After the Jamui incident, allegations and counter-allegations are continuously increasing between the leaders of the ruling party and the opposition in Bihar. Tejashwi Yadav has also raised questions on the government regarding this matter, while the action against the accused is being presented by the ruling party as the government’s strictness on law and order.
The case has become more in the news after the main accused Nandan Yadav was shot in the leg in a police encounter (Jamui encounter). After this, Manjhi’s statement and Rohini Acharya’s reaction have given a new turn to the ongoing political debate regarding the incident.
At present, along with the legal action in the Jamui incident, the political rhetoric on it also remains a big issue of discussion in the politics of Bihar.
