Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has made a scathing attack on the state government regarding law and order in Bihar. During the press conference at his residence in Patna (Tejashwi Yadav press conference), he referred to the viral video of misbehavior with minors in Jamui (Jamui viral video) and described the incident as shameful. He said that such incidents affect the image of Bihar in the entire country.
Tejashwi Yadav also raised questions on those statements in which the Jamui incident was described as ‘sporadic incidents’. He asked that if a similar incident had happened with a minister’s family or Jamui MP Shreyasi Singh, would it still have been called an isolated incident?
‘Those who made such statements should apologize’
Tejashwi said that it is difficult to imagine what might have happened to the victim girl and her family. According to him, it is not appropriate to term such a serious incident as normal. He demanded an apology from the concerned leaders for the ‘sporadic’ statements given in this matter.
He said that women public representatives and ministers should also express their views on such incidents in a sensitive manner.
‘Criminal has no caste’
Tejashwi rose above caste politics and demanded action regarding crime in Bihar. He said that no matter which caste or class the person committing the crime belongs to, strict action should be taken against him as per the law.
Tejashwi said that if found guilty of serious crimes, the harshest punishment should be given. He also said that instead of looking at the crime through the lens of caste, the focus should be on providing justice to the victim.
Chief Minister’s old statement was also mentioned
During the press conference, Tejashwi Yadav also cited the statement of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, in which it was said that the government is responsible for the safety of women and girls.
Tejashwi claimed that reports of murder, molestation and other criminal incidents are coming to light in different parts of the state. Citing media reports of the last one month, he demanded the government to make public the details of the action taken in these cases.
He said that if the government stands by what it has said regarding the safety of women, then it should prove it through action on the ground.
Also met the family of victims of Sasaram
During the press conference of Tejashwi Yadav, a victim’s family from Sasaram was also present. The family alleged that a person was caught by the Excise Department for drinking alcohol and money was demanded for his release.
The family alleged that he died after being beaten and allegedly given an injection in jail. Tejashwi demanded action against those responsible in this matter and sought answers from the government.
Serious allegations against the government regarding transfers
Tejashwi Yadav also made serious allegations against the government regarding the transfer of officers and policemen. He claimed that an alleged ‘racket’ of transfers is going on from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and posting or transfer is being done at any desired place by taking money.
He alleged that irregularities are taking place in the police department also regarding transfers and postings. However, these allegations have been made by Tejashwi Yadav and the government’s response to these allegations is not included in this report.
Government also cornered regarding crime statistics
Tejashwi raised questions on the law and order of Bihar in the Parliament, citing crime related questions and available data. He alleged that there is no effective control on crime incidents in the state and questions have been raised regarding police action in many cases.
He demanded from the government that immediate action should be taken in other serious cases including the Jamui incident and the victims should get justice.
